A Look From Brook
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE UNITED METHODIST
Last weekend our PNW Bishop, Elaine JW Stanovsky, preached a great sermon at Seattle First UMC. If you want to listen to it all, you can find it here. But I want to concentrate my thoughts on one paragraph of her sermon where she points out why she’s a member of the United Methodist Church. Here’s the paragraph:
“I guess that’s why I’m a Methodist. We do not teach that creation is utterly depraved. We teach that human beings can be partners with God in sharing a good word. We teach that God reaches out to us in every circumstance and guides us into the way of peace. We teach that there’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea.
On Sunday, February 10th, Pastor Brook and our Stephen Ministries team are putting on a Healing Service centered around broken relationships.
At the service we will be having several people sharing their personal experience with broken and bruised relationships. We will then provide some spiritual practices and practical wisdom about how to walk through these broken places towards healing. This service is open to the entire community. We encourage you to come and to invite a friend. The service will begin at 4:30 pm and conclude with a light refreshments and fellowship.
