Lobbing Back Life's Lemons

Pastor Brook's Tuesday Morning Video Study Begins on Tuesday Oct 23

Pastor Brook’s Tuesday morning group is going to start a 5-week video series starting Tuesday, Oct 23 called “All The Places To Go”.  This series, based on a book written by John Ortberg, explores the idea of a God who opens doors for us! The decision for us is when and if we are going to walk through them! “Very rarely in the Bible does God command someone to “stay.”  God opens a door, and then invites us to walk through it---into the unknown.  And how we choose to respond will ultimately determine the lives we will lead and the people we will become.” Come join us on Tuesdays at 9:30 in the Multi-Purpose room for this exciting study led by Pastor Brook. Call Pastor Brook if you have further ?s at 6056107793

At our God’s Hands meeting we decided to combing one of our most successful front porch ministries...Trunk or Treat...with one of our new emerging ministries...Afghan ministries! We can’t wait to see how this works! So as children and families are invited to our Trunk or Treat community party, they will be encouraged to bring gently used toys with them. These toys, then, will be shared with some of the Afghan families we are reaching out to through our God’s Hands program!  Awesome!  Our big event is on Sunday, Oct 28 from 4-6pm. To find out more go to our events pate athttps://www.bcumc.org/new-events/2018/9/4/trunk-or-treat .

A LOOK FROM BROOK

This week I’ve been struggling.  Can I admit that to you? For 11 years of my life I poured my heart and soul into the Vermillion First United Methodist church. Much of that time was spent developing a growing youth group there in “the loft” of that church. All 4 of my children ended up being a part of that ministry. We spent countless hours painting the loft, staying up late at lock-ins, going to camps, planning ski trips, putting on haunted houses, and more. And in the process, we became a go to place for youth in the town of Vermillion, SD.

Surviving the Holidays Event Nov 10 th from 2-4pm

Stephen Ministry is sponsoring a seminar on November 10 th , from 2-4pm at BCUMC.  Surviving the Holidays is especially for people who are grieving a loved one’s death. During this 2 hour event you will watch a 40 minute video, filled with practical holiday survival tips and real life stories of people who have navigated the season after their loved one’s death. There will also be time to hear how other seminar attendees are dealing with the holidays and give you the opportunity to share your thoughts if you feel comfortable sharing. Everyone will also receive a copy of the GriefShare Holiday Survival guide. This guide offers advice on how to deal with the many emotions you’ll face during the holidays. It also offers suggestions on what to do about traditions and other coming changes. Finally, the guide will also have helpful tips for surviving social events and how to discover hope for your future.

For questions please contact the BCUMC office at 425-788-2953 or register for this free seminar.
