Community Emergency Response Team
TRAINING
WEDNESDAY EVENINGS
January 7th - February 11th
6:00 - 9:00 PM
WFLSD CERT exists to mitigate the effects of disaster on our community and to aid our community’s emergency responders.
The Community Emergency Response Team is a program developed as a means of preparing for the aftermath of earthquakes and expanded to include preparation for a variety of hazards. Immediately following a disaster, the number and scope of incidents can quickly overwhelm professional emergency services. CERT teams are trained to provide first aid and disaster mitigation until professional emergency responders are available.
This 7-week class is provided to the community through special funding via Bear Creek United Methodist Church. There is no fee to participate and all equipment and materials are provided to trainees.
The CERT course teaches community members how to:
- Manage utilities and put out small fires
- Treat the three medical killers by opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating for shock
- Provide basic medical aid
- Search for and rescue victims safely
- Organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective
- Collect disaster intelligence to support first responder efforts
Register online or call the BCUMC office (425-788-2953).
