Praise the Lord!

Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!

Praise him with tambourine and dance!

Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!

-Psalm 150:1, 3-4, 6

Mission

To provide a variety of quality worship experiences originating with Bear Creek United Methodist Church that allow us to understand God’s grace and feel the Holy Spirit, by binding us together in Christian fellowship while encouraging us to spread the Good News that Christ is born, Christ is risen, and Christ will come again.

Primary Function

Primarily functions to oversee worship at BCUMC, including the development of a yearly calendar of regular and special services, and facilitating monthly and weekly planning considering liturgical seasons, lectionary readings, and appropriate music.

Responsibilities

Major responsibilities include planning for quality worship experiences at Bear Creek UMC.  This will include coordination between subgroups and individuals such as the music coordinator, worship coordinator, visual arts team and coordinator, music teams and leaders, special music coordinator, choirs and choir directors, communion servers and coordinator, sound team and coordinator, children’s church coordinators, drama team and coordinator, usher team and coordinator, lay leader, committee chair, pastor and secretary.

Other responsibilities include developing quality worship leaders and team members by providing appropriate training to nurture the gifts we find in the congregation, including speakers, readers, planners, artists, actors, musicians and others.  A record is maintained of songs and hymns in worship both new and old, and legal permissions obtained for their use during services.  Sound system use and upgrades, multi-media capabilities and instrumental care and purchase are reviewed.  We may also fill the pulpit in the pastor’s absence, and coordinate worship during those times.

2009 Goals

Provide weekly Sunday morning and monthly Sunday evening worship services to meet the needs of the church and community.

Continue Worship Effort study to include listening to various groups in the church concerning current and future worship plans.

Develop compilation of learnings/listening sessions into framework for action.

Draft plan for changes in current worship, as well as expanding to an additional worship service weekly.

Make recommendation to Executive Council/Administrative Council for future worship offerings.
