WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SUNDAY, JAN. 2
Posted by the webmaster under Announcements
Directory Photos. Karl Brackmann will be taking photos for the church directory today and next Sunday. If you haven’t had yours taken, or would like it retaken, please see Karl after the service.
Amazing Grace Seminar. The next Amazing Grace Seminar will be held on Saturday, February 2, from 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. This class is the foundation study on being a United Methodist. We begin with God Is Love and end with a healing process as taught by Christ and supported by the Holy Spirit. This class is designed for the curious (who have no desire to join the church as this time), regular attendees and current members. It is also one of the first steps for those seeking membership into BCUMC. Breakfast, lunch and childcare (as requested) are provided. Mark your interest on the Presence Slip or contact the church office to sign up.
Souper Bowl Sunday. Next Sunday (February 3) is Souper Bowl Sunday. BCUMC Youth will greet you that day with a soup bowl in hand. They join young people in churches across the country to collect canned and boxed goods as well as dollars to demonstrate God’s love by loving their neigh- bors through the Super Bowl of Caring. Since the Souper Bowl of Caring began in 1990, more than $41 million has helped people in need. All our proceeds will be donated to our local food bank. Please support our youth’s mission project in this effort to “love our neighbors” by remembering to bring your donation.
Lenten Book Study. On Thursday mornings beginning February 7, we will hold a six-week Lenten Study here at the church from 10:30-11:30 a.m. We will be using the book “Radical Renovation: Living the Cross-Shaped Life,” by James A. Harnish. You can get this book at Cokesbury or by contacting Joan Pierce. Join us for study, discussion, and prayer.
Confirmation Class. We are starting a Confirmation Class for 7th graders and older. Meet at the church at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, if you are interested. Questions? Call Marge Kuykendall at 425.883.0248.
Children’s Support for Capital Campaign. The children of BCUMC (age 4 through 6th grade) have been asked to support our Capital Campaign. This offering will be presented to the church during worship on Sunday, February 10, as a closing activity of the campaign. Please encourage your children to take part in this offering by having them do an extra chore or task to earn some money to give to the church. This is also a great opportunity to talk about the importance of regular giving to the church. Offerings will be accepted during Children’s Church and Sunday School today and next Sunday. If you have questions about the Capital Campaign, please contact Jim Morris or Tom Litchford. Thanks for your support!
Youth Surveys. Surveys were mailed out on to all members of our congregation who have children. Please take a minute to complete your survey and either mail it back to me in the self-addressed envelope or put it in the Youth/Children mail box in the work room. Your input is needed as I assess and build programs for our children and youth. Thank you. Marge Kuykendall
Green Church Committee Tip of the Week: Next Sunday, February 3, is Bring-Your-Mug-To-Church Day. Over its life span, a ceramic mug is far more eco-efficient than paper and other materials; it will be used about 3,000 times, resulting in 30 times less solid waste and 60 times less air pollution than the equivalent number of cardboard or polystyrene cups. Help the church cut back on disposable products by bringing your favorite mug next week for coffee hour and keeping it here to use regularly. We will mark it with your name and put it in a convenient spot for you to enjoy on Sundays and during other church activities. Remember to bring your own mug when buying coffee at take-out coffee shops, also.
Safeway eScrip. Everyday Purchases-Extraordinary Results! Want to help Kairos Prison Ministry transform lives? Your ordinary purchases at Safeway can help fund this important ministry. Through eScrip enrollment, a portion of every Safeway purchase is donated to Kairos Prison Ministry, and you don’t have to do anything other than shop as normal! To enroll your Safeway club card, please contact Terri Stewart at 425.788.3164 or terri.stewart@comcast.net. She will need your name, address and club card number.
Flood Cleanup. If you would like to receive information about future BCUMC flood cleanup mission activities in the Chehalis area, please contact the church office or Marny Livingston at marnylivingston@comcast.com.
Women’s Retreat. The Camp Indianola Women’s Weekend Away is fast approaching! If you are interested in some loose down-time to unwind, read, work on your craft project, or walk the beach on Puget Sound, consider attending the Women’s Weekend Away at Camp Indianola on February 22-24. Good food, good people, good music with Judy Allen and Ann Rupley. This year’s theme is Godspell, and you can come with a costume for Saturday night or not. Just let yourself go Day By Day back to the 60’s, and enjoy All Good Gifts while you Bless The Lord, and be the Light Of The World to the friends, new and old, that you will see there. Cost is $85; reservations and payments are due by 13 February. Further details, forms and contact info available at www.campindianola.org.
Taproot Theatre. “Turn on, tune in, and drop out” with a hilarious ’60s look at Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy, As You Like It. Set during the hippie movement, against the backdrop of the Great Society, the story unfolds in a country divided by the youth movement’s growing distrust of a usurping governmental authority. A rollicking retreat into the forest of Arden gives a group of disgruntled youths a change to explore a new philosophy of peace and learn some lesions about love. As You Like It previews January 30 and 31 and runs February 1 through March 1, Group rates are available. For tickets and information, call 206.781.9707. taproottheatre.org
